Who?

All prospective music majors and minors must audition on at least one instrument (requirements listed above) in order to be considered for admission into the School of Music.

Attire

Please be sure to dress properly for your audition. "Business casual" is a generally a good place to start when it comes to proper audition attire, but many prospective students will dress even more nicely. One note of caution: though dressing nicely is encouraged, students should avoid wearing clothing that is overly stiff or uncomfortable (e.g. heavily-starched shirts or shoes that are not yet broken in); any clothing that could distract one from performing one's best should be avoided.

Multiple instruments

Though we welcome students to audition on more than one instrument (up to three), multiple auditions do not necessarily increase a student's chances of being admitted to the School of Music. School of Music faculty do not take into account the number of auditions a student is performing when deciding whether or not to admit the student. Also, a student's audition performance is the sole determining factor for music scholarship eligibility, and so it may be best to focus on preparing one outstanding audition rather than to prepare multiple mediocre auditions. Please email Music Admissions for instructions on how to submit an application to audition on more than one instrument.

Note: Music scholarship considerations are only made once per year, during the regular spring audition season. See more information about music scholarships here.

Distance auditions

Although we strongly encourage live, on-site auditions, all undergraduate applicants who live beyond a 250-mile radius of Athens, GA may submit their entire audition online. However, to be considered for music scholarships, you must perform an on-site audition during one of our official audition dates. Please contact Music Admissions to request permission before submitting a distance audition video. For specifics on video audition submissions, please see this page.

Scheduling

  • For the Music Minor in Jazz there is no set audition date. All Jazz applicants are expected to schedule their audition directly with David D'Angelo.

  • Undergraduate audition dates can be found here. Audition date and time confirmation will arrive via email from Music Admissions.

Results

Audition Day procedures vary by studio, but your audition results will always be sent to you as quickly as is possible. If you audition during our spring undergraduate audition season (usually in January and February each year), we can usually get official music admissions notifications out by early to mid-March, which is usually just before the Office of Undergraduate Admissions releases all Regular Decision admissions results.
