String Project Classes

CLASSES

UGA String Project classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuition includes 10 weeks/20 classes of group instruction, the instructional materials, a UGA String Project T-shirt, and the performance. Important dates can be found after the class descriptions.

Please complete registration one week prior to the start of classes. Late registration is possible, but the tuition will not be pro-rated for missed classes.

Instrument rentals are not included. UGA String Project has a very limited number of instruments for rent. Violins and violas are $50/semester, and cellos and basses are $75/semester. The renter is responsible for all maintenance costs and will only have use of the instrument during the semesters they are enrolled in class. Instrument rentals are only available for participants of the UGA String Project. Additional information about instrument rentals can be found at here.

 

Explorer 1

Mondays and Wednesdays| 4:45 – 5:30pm | HHSOM 308

Explorer 1 provides beginning instruction for elementary students with no prior string experience. An informational open house and instrument ‘petting zoo’ will be held at the beginning of the Fall semester. This open house allows students and families to meet the String Project staff, hear and play the various instruments, and get learn more about instrument rentals.

Tuition: $120/semester plus $5 registration fee 

UGA String Project Rental Fees: Violin/Viola $50/semester | Cello/Double Bass $75/semester
 

Explorer 2

Mondays and Wednesdays| 4:45 – 5:30pm | HHSOM 304

Explorer 2 provides instruction for students with at least one year of string playing experience to hone their skills.  Students who have completed Explorer 1 will be placed into Explorer 2. Students with outside experience.

Tuition: $120/semester plus $5 registration fee 

UGA String Project Rental Fees: Violin/Viola $50/semester | Cello/Double Bass $75/semester


Ensemble

Mondays and Wednesdays| 5:30 – 6:15pm | HHSOM 304

Ensemble provides students with at least two years of string playing the opportunity to perform as a string orchestra. This ensemble regularly performs as a part of the UGA Spotlight on the Arts Family Day and was invited to performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference. 

Tuition: $120/semester plus $5 registration fee 

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

The UGA String Project is committed to ensuring that all interested students have access to high-quality string instruction regardless of financial circumstances. To support this goal, a limited number of need-based scholarships are available. 

Scholarship awards may include reduced tuition and free instrument rental. Families may request consideration for one of three scholarship levels based on their financial circumstances (UGA String Project Scholarship Application – Fill out form) and may be submitted without any payment included:

Tier 1 Scholarship: instrument rental fee waiver

Tier 2 Scholarship: $60 tuition waiver + instrument rental fee waiver

Tier 3 Scholarship: $90 tuition waiver + instrument rental fee waiver

Once awarded, financial assistance scholarships remain in effect for the current academic year (fall and spring semester). Students receiving scholarships are expected to participate for the entire academic year (fall and spring). A new application must be submitted each academic year.

Wednesday November 18th: Concert, 6pm Edge Recital Hall

Spring 2027

January 18th: First Day of Spring Semester

February 24th: American String Teachers Association Conference (No Class)

March 8th and March 10th: UGA Spring Break (No Class)
