UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music Admissions

The Hugh Hodgson School of Music (HHSOM) offers a variety of degree programs, from baccalaureate to doctoral levels, in music performance, composition, conducting, music education, musicology and ethnomusicology, music therapy, and more.

There is a lot to experience both in and out of our classrooms, with well over 300 performance opportunities each year in the stunning Hodgson Concert Hall, intimate Ramsey and Edge recital spaces, and our Dancz Center for New Music.

Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate

You must apply to the School of Music before you can audition. For details, please review the Undergraduate Music Admissions Overview. We recommend submitting your School of Music application at least a month prior to your preferred audition date.

Fall 2026 Applicants: Our official audition dates for Fall 2026 admission have passed. Please email the faculty member associated your intended primary instrument to inquire about studio availability for Fall 2026 admission before applying.

Spring 2027 Applicants: Please contact Music Admissions before you apply to start in a spring semester. We must verify studio space before an audition can be scheduled. The deadline to apply for Spring 2027 is December 1. Spring 2027 auditions must occur before December 15.

Fall 2027 Applicants: The recommended deadline to apply for Fall 2027 is January 1. Please email Music Admissions to confirm availability before submitting an application after the January 1 deadline.

Undergraduate Audition Dates (for scholarship consideration):

Friday, January 15, 2027 (piano, or strings)
Saturday, January 23, 2027
Saturday, February 6, 2027

*Music Minor in Jazz applicants should select "Distance Audition" to submit their audition with recorded materials.

Graduate Admissions

Applications for Fall 2026 are currently being accepted.

Please be sure that you carefully review the Graduate Admissions Overview.

Applicants in Performance should provide the audition committee with a list of major applied teachers, samples of programs performed, and a summary of literature studied. One of the letters of recommendation should be from the most recent applied instructor.

For pre-screening information or other special requirements specific to your desired degree, please select your performance area from the list below. Applicants who are not required to submit for pre-screening must contact the appropriate area chair to secure a date for a live audition.
