This seminar is a three day intensive that focuses on percussion sound and technique. The focus of the class is to expose the band directors to a logical and natural approach to sound and a clear pedagogical approach to teaching all of the concert percussion instruments.

Lunch will be provided by the UGA Bands Area
Seminar is limited to 25 participants.

 

SNARE DRUM AND ACCESSORIES
Areas of focus will include tuning of drums, repair tips, how to budget purchases for your percussion section. You will have hands on experience and strategies for performance and teaching concepts to students.

TIMPANI
Areas of focus will include sound production, tuning, execution of rolls and rhythms, stick selection, grip; German vs. American vs. French, head clearing, mounting of timpani heads, storage of the instruments, stick covering and cartwheel vs. ball stick wrapping. Brands of instruments, construction and bowl shapes will be discussed in detail.

KEYBOARD INSTRUMENTS
Areas of focus will include different wood types, Mallet choices, brand of instruments, care of the instruments when used inside and outside and general tone productions on each of the mallet instruments will be discussed in great detail.
