New Horizons

Nice article about the New Horizons and the Community Music School in the Athens Banner Herald:

The band actually grew out of the University of Georgia's Community Music School, a part of UGA's Hugh Hodgson School of Music, said Kristin Jutras, director of the community music school, which offers private lessons and other musical opportunities to UGA students as well as people in Athens and surrounding communities.

The school also has launched a New Horizons orchestra, for folks who play stringed instruments, and a chorus is coming up next, she said.

Her husband, Pete, a faculty member in the Hodgson School of Music, has done research on the many benefits people can get from playing music, either by themselves or in groups.

They get a sense of accomplishment, make new friends and can even boost their mental and physical health, he said.

Congratulations to the CMS and all the local musicians out there who are having such a great time picking up their instruments (again).
