D. Ray McClellan Recital

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

The Faculty Recital Series continues tonight at 8 pm in Ramsey Concert hall, when professor of clarinet D. Ray McClellan will be joined by two very special guest artists.

On Monday, D. Ray McClellan, clarinet faculty member at the University of Georgia, will share the stage with friends - good friends - during his performance for the faculty recital series in Ramsey Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center.

Soprano Sarah Shafer, 22, is the youngest singer to be invited to the prestigious Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont and is a graduate student at The Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. She's also the daughter of McClellan's guest pianist, Timothy Shafer, piano professor at Penn State University.

McClellan and Timothy Shafer have been best friends since the age of 14.

McClellan recalls several important events relating to his friend's daughter Sarah - "I remember holding Sarah as a baby, and I know the name of her first doll," he says. "Sarah also sang at my wedding when she was 7 years old, so it was especially meaningful for us to perform Schubert's Shepherd on the Rock last July at the Penn's Alps Festival."

They'll perform the Schubert here in Athens, too.

"To perform with your close friend and his daughter is truly special," McClellan said.

Admission is $5. See you there.
