Ensembles which do not require a placement hearing are open to all interested singers - simply register. Voice part placement will take place on the first day of classes.

Sign up for a placement hearing - Fall 2023

Fall 2023:

August 16-18, 2023, Choral Office, Hugh Hodgson School of Music

  • All music majors and minors who plan to use a choir to fulfill their large ensemble requirement must do a choir placement hearing and enroll in your assigned choral ensemble as determined by the choral faculty.

  • Singers interested in being considered for Hodgson Singers or Repertory Singers should sign up for a placement hearing.

  • There is nothing to prepare for a choral hearing. Students will be asked to vocalize (in order to demonstrate voice range, size, and character) and show their level of music literacy, which includes singing a short sight-reading excerpt.

  • Choral Project auditions are open to graduate students and undergraduates in their second year or higher, and are usually held virtually at the end of the previous semester.

  • Students who do not need a choir to fulfill their large ensemble requirement and non-majors do not need to do a placement hearing to join Women's Glee Club, Men's Glee Club, University Chorus, or African American Choral Ensemble. Just register for the course and come to the first day of class.
