Sally Ann Nichols

Clinical Assistant Professor
Sally Ann Nichols, MM, LPMT, MT-BC is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Music Therapy. She received her M.M. in Music Therapy from Florida State University and B.M. in Music Therapy from Belmont University as part of the first graduating class in their program. She has advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy® (NMT-Fellow) and neonatal intensive care unit music therapy (NICU-MT) through the National Institute for Infant & Child Medical Music Therapy.

Before joining UGA, Professor Nichols was a medical music therapist at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL working with a variety of patients across the hospital, including neurologic, level 1 trauma, cardiology, oncology, palliative, psychiatric, neonatal, and other general medical populations. Prior to this, she developed the music therapy program at the Intrepid Spirit Center of Eglin Air Force Base, FL, serving military service members with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. 

Professor Nichols currently serves as a southeastern region delegate on the Assembly of Delegates of the American Music Therapy Association and is a member of the Music Therapy Association of Georgia. In her role at UGA, she coordinates and supervises pre-clinical and clinical music therapy practicums, teaches courses related to music therapy clinical and musical skills, and creates community partnerships that benefit both student learning and the Athens community. Her scholarly interested include: 1) medical music therapy, including neurorehabilitative and psychosocial needs of hospitalized people; 2) mental health and music therapy; and 3) advocacy for the field of music therapy and increased regional recognition.
