Bands Perform Combined Concert

Join us on Wednesday, March 2 for the first band concert of the semester, featuring all three Hugh Hodgson School of Music department wind ensembles!

The UGA Wind Ensemble is led by visiting conductor Dennis Glocke, Professor Emeritus and former Director of Bands at Pennsylvania State University. Concluding his residency at the HHSOM, Glocke conducts Fascinating Ribbons by Joan Tower and Hammersmith by Gustav Holst. He is joined by graduate students David J. Stanley, Jeremy Smith, and Davaron Edwards who lead works by Joaquin Rodrigo, Joseph Schwantner, and Omar Thomas.

Shiree X. Williams, Lecturer & Associate Director of Bands, leads the UGA Wind Symphony in the premiere of a new work entitled Ode to Breonna by Timothy K. Adams Jr., the Mildred Goodrum Heyward Professor in Music and Chair of the Percussion Department. The Wind Symphony rounds out their portion of the program with works by Steve Rouse and David Maslanka. 



Another special piece on the program is HHSOM Professor Tim Adams’s Ode to Breonna for Wind Symphony, orchestrated by DMA Percussion student, Andrew Blair.

Michael C. Robinson, Professor of Music Education, leads the UGA Symphonic Band in works by Vaclav Nelhybel, Adam Gorb, and Samuel Hazo. Graduate student Davaron Edwards guest conducts the Symphonic Band in Katahj Copley’s Halcyon Hearts.

The performance is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall. Tickets are free and open to the public. If you are unable to attend, live streaming is available.
