Cellist Dennis Parker to Perform in Guest Artist Concert

Cellist Dennis Parker will be performing a recital in Ramsey Hall of the UGA Performing Arts Center at 5:30 on Thursday, October 25.  He will be joined by pianist Lina Morita, playing two Brahms sonata transcriptions – the Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major, and the Viola Sonata in E-flat.  The program will also include Capriccio by Lucas Foss and Sambatango by Walter Marx.  Mr. Parker is the professor of cello at Louisiana State University.  He will be teaching a cello master class in Edge Hall on October 25, 10:00-12:00.  Both the class and the recital are free admission.

Mr. Parker received his early training with Channing Robbins of the Juilliard School, and later earned degrees from Indiana University and Yale University, where he worked with Janos Starker and Aldo Parisot, respectively.  Recent tours have taken him to Asia, South and Central America, and Eastern and Western Europe.  Pianist Lina Morita teaches at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  She earned the DMA degree at Eastman, and attended Rice University and Indiana University, studying with Nelita True, Robert Roux, Edmund Battersby, and Michel Block.
