Jacob Powers, an alumnus of the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s percussion area, is the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s (LPO) new principal percussionist.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, May 17 that the UGA alum would be joining the New Orleans-based orchestra, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

"When Jacob won the principal percussion position with the Louisiana Philharmonic we were, of course, thrilled, but it came as no surprise to us,” said Timothy K. Adams Jr., chair of the School of Music’s percussion area. “We knew he was on the right track, and we are so proud of his accomplishment.”

Adams’s confidence comes from Powers’s track record—prior to joining the LPO, Powers was a section percussionist in the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, where he played with Kimberly Toscano Adams, another instructor in the School of Music’s percussion area.
