The Hodgson Singers, flagship choral ensemble of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will present the final entry in the 2014-15 2nd Thursday Scholarship Concert Series on April 9. Tickets for the performance, held at 7:30 pm in Hodgson Concert Hall, are $18/$5 for students and available via the UGA Performing Arts Center box office at 706/542-4400 or online at pac.uga.edu.

The program is divided into two thematic halves. The first, “Requiem aeternam: The mystery of the great Hereafter,” includes Henirich Schütz’s Selig sind die Toten, Harbert Howells’ Requiem, and Invocation and Dance by David Conte. The second half of the evening, “‘…we belong to each other…’: Reflections on our wondrous interconnectedness,” features Joan Szymko’s All Works of Love, Peter Louis van Dijk’s Horizons, “Somewhere” from Bernstein’s West Side Story, Erika Lloyd’s Cells Planets, and Hallelujah by William Walker. The ensemble is led by Hodgson School Director of Choral Activities Daniel Bara, with special assistance from graduate student Joy E. Meade and pianist Elena Lyalina.

The Hodgson Singers is UGA’s premiere choral ensemble, and as such is made up of many of the university’s most talented and dedicated singers. In 2014, the UGA Hodgson Singers won the prestigious International Choral Competition Ave Verum, a two-day event, held this past weekend in Baden, Austria. The choir took "Grand Prix Ave Verum," the competition's top prize, out of 10 selected choirs from the US, Italy, Hungary, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Austria, and the Philippines.

Established in 1980, the 2nd Thursday Scholarship Series offers showcase performances by UGA students and faculty the second Thursday of each month throughout the academic year. Proceeds from individual ticket sales and season subscriptions help fund year-long academic scholarships and assistantships for students and present donors the opportunity to sponsor individual students of the music school at several levels of giving.
