Evgeny Rivkin performs April 3 in rescheduled 2nd Thursday Concert

Hugh Hodgson School of Music faculty member Evgeny Rivkin will present an evening of piano music on Friday, April 3 at 7:30 pm in Hodgson Concert Hall. Tickets for the performance, which continues the 2014-2015 Hugh Hodgson School of Music’s 2nd Thursday Scholarship Concert Series, are $18/$5 for students and available via the UGA Performing Arts Center box office at 706/542-4400 or online at pac.uga.edu.

The program will feature a broad selection of Romantic compositions for piano: Brahms’ Sonata No. 3 in F minor; Six moments musicaux and Impromptus by Schubert; Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux; and Two Poems and Five Preludes Op. 74 by Scriabin.

Rivkin joined the University of Georgia in 1995. Prior to his arrival, he served as professor of piano at the Latvian Academy of Music in Riga, Latvia. Rivkin has taken top prizes in in the Bavarian Radio Musik Competition (Munich), the International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow), the USSR National Piano Competition of St. Petersburg, and the Russian National Piano Competition. In 1998 he won the first prize in the 1998 International McMahon Piano Competition held in Oklahoma.
