UGA Tuba-Euphonium students win top international prizes

UGA Tuba-Euphonium Quartet

The 2014 International Tuba Euphonium Convention was held last week on the Indiana University campus. Several current and past students of UGA Tuba-Euphonium professor David Zerkel competed, to outstanding results.

  • Christopher Leslie, current DMA sutdent at the Hodgson School, took First Prize - Euphonium Artist Solo Competition as well as First Prize - Euphonium Mock Military Band Audition Competition;
  • The UGA Tuba Quartet (comprised of current graduate students Patrick Geren, Chris Leslie, David McLemore, Chris Gurtcheff) took Second Prize - Chamber Music Competition;
  • Phil Bloomer (MM '09) took First Prize - Arnold Jacobs Orchestral Audition Competition and Third Prize - Tuba Solo Artist Competition

Congratulations to all UGA students involved. The ITEC competitions represent the finest caliber of young musicians performing today on tuba and euphonium, and the University of Georgia is proud to have such outstanding students!
