Claude Baker visits UGA for Distinguished Composer Residency

Composer Claude Baker, Chancellor's Professor of Composition at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, will visit the Hugh Hodgson School of Music for a residency this week, featuring performances and lectures open to the public.

  • UGA Contemporary Chamber Ensemble concert - Ramsey Concert Hall, 4/14, 8:00 pm - Featuring Baker's Three Phantasy Pieces for Viola & Percussion, Omaggi e Fantasie, and Burlesque, all performed by Hugh Hodgson School of Music graduate students and faculty - FREE
  • Conducting Master Class - Band Hall (Room 116), 4/15, 10:45 am
  • Presentation to sophomore theory class - Dancz Center, 4/16, 10:10 am
  • UGA Wind Ensemble Concert: "Distant Views" - Hodgson Concert Hall, 4/16, 8:00 pm - Featuring HHSOM percussion professor Timothy Adams, Jr., on Baker's Three Pieces for Five Timpani, Five Roto-Toms, & Wind Ensemble - $10/$5 with UGA student ID.

Baker has received numerous awards throughout his career, including an Academy Award in Music from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and two Kennedy Center Friedheim Awards. In addition to teaching at Indiana University, Baker has served on the faculties of the University of Georgia and the University of Louisville and has been a Visiting Professor at the Eastman School of Music.
