Congratulations are in order for several Hodgson School students who took away top prizes at the Music Teachers National Association southern division competition! The event, which welcomed winners from nine state competitions, was held in Louisville, KY on January 17-20.

• Christopher Leslie, euphonium (David Zerkel, teacher) won first place in the Young Artist Performance - Brass area;
• The UGA Tuba Quartet (Christopher Leslie & Patrick Geren, euphoniums, David McLemore & Christopher Gurtcheff, tubas; David Zerkel, ensemble coach) won first place in the Chamber Music - Winds area;
• The Selah Piano Trio (Lucas Scalamogna, violin, Noah Johnson, cello, and Youngmi Moon, piano; Levon Ambartsumian, ensemble coach) were alternates in the Chamber Music - Strings area

The win means that both Leslie and the UGA Tuba Quartet are national finalists in their respective divisions, and will attend the MTNA national competition March 22-24 in Chicago Illinois.
