Trumpeter and TV personality Doc Severinsen will present a Masterclass during common hour (1:25-2:15pm) in Hodgson Hall at the UGA Performing Arts Center.

For 25 years, from 1967-1992, Severinsen was the bandleader of The Tonight Show. The show and its band were quite different than The Tonight Show of today. There was virtually no competition in late night, the band was a swinging big band and Severinsen was a comic foil to host Johnny Carson.

Being on one of the biggest shows in television made Severinsen one of the best-known American instrumentalists of the second half of the 20th century. Yet his celebrity, buoyant personality and flamboyant clothes were surpassed by his chops.  He also has had a distinguished career as orchestral pops conductor and soloist.
